There are times, like today – late afternoon, the sun shining, the air balmy – when I'm sitting in my little, 1850s, brick and beam office that overlooks the village, and much work is done for the day, and I'd rather be sipping a lemonade or glass of rosé, and not thinking about anything, or trying not to think about anything. It’s exactly the time when working on the novel is most important for me. So that's what I'm doing.
